This site is powered by the WordPress blogging platform and the visual design is based on the Revolution theme by Brian Gardner.
The site is hosted by pair Networks, a reliable and environmentally friendly web hosting provider on a FreeBSD server running the Apache web server.
90% of the software that is used in producing and serving this site (including FireFox, WordPress, FreeBSD, and Apache) are Open Source. Why is Open Source important? It provides better quality software that is reliable, flexibility, and lower in cost, without predatory vendor lock-in. Everyone who uses the world wide web benefits from Open Source either directly or indirectly. Not having the pay the server tax of a proprietary operating system makes it possible for organizations to deploy more servers, and they are more reliable than the leading proprietary operating system. Sometimes collective efforts result in better, more reliable products. The Linux and Free BSD open source operating systems are a testament to that. The Mach kernel and the BSD subsystem that lies under the hood of very Macintosh is another testament to that. Consider how much more reliable Mac OS X is compared to XP or Vista.
