There are several interesting start-ups that are working to bring the television and internet experiences together. A strong contender in this horse race is Joost, a company founded by Niklas Zennstrøm and Janus Friis, who co-founded KaZaA and Skype. Currently available in limited beta, Joost provides free access to thousands of programs and channels not currently available on the Web.

Amazon wants control over your computer, will you allow it?

Would you be willing to surrender your rights to privacy, integrity of your personal data, and control over your computer, in order to download movies? If you’ve signed up for and installed Amazon UnBoxed on your computer, you have. Cory Doctorow, in his post “Amazon Unbox to customers: Eat shit and die” on boingboing explains in great detail why this is so. Essential reading.

Look in Your Eyes (music video)

Look in Your Eyes is a track from Colin Owens’ CD, 20 Minutes into the Future, available through iTunes and CD Baby. The video was shot with the Panasonic HVX200, Magic Bullet was used for the old film artifact effects.

Remembering John Marshall (trailer)

Here’s the new trailer I cut for our film, Remembering John Marshall, a short documentary that presents a brief portrait of John Kennedy Marshall, the late filmmaker and activist who began his career in the 1950s documenting the lives of the Ju/’hoansi people of Namibia, among the last remaining hunter-gatherers. The film will screen this week as part of the Retrospective: The Films of John Marshall, at the Anthology Film Archives in New York City on Wednesday evening, March 7th and Thursday Evening, March 8th, 2007, and at the Washington, D.C. Independent Film Festival on Saturday, March 10, 2007.

This was one of the largest Boston Media Makers meetings yet with so many people talking about so many fascinating projects. The group meets the first Sunday of the month at Sweet Finnish in Jamaica Plain starting at 10:00 a.m. I always get a lot out of hearing what everyone is working on and all the amazing discussion.
