I heard an interesting interview on Weekend Edition with Werner Herzog talking about Grizzly Man, his new documentary about Timothy Treadwell, who spent many years with grizzly bears in Alaska. There’s another good interview that was on Fresh Air a couple of days prior.

Unknown Screen Stars

Karin Segal, assistant conservator and publicist at the Harvard Film Archive, and Julie Buck, the head of conservation the Harvard Film Archive, have restored 70 color-timing control strip images (a.k.a. “China Girls”) that make up their exhibition “Girls on Film” at the Sert Gallery in the Carpenter Center at Harvard University. The exibition runs July 16 through September 18, 2005. The exhibition includes a short program of films on the Sert video wall outside the gallery. On Sept. 16, 2005 at 9 p.m., the Harvard Film Archive will present a program of experimental films to complement “Girls on Film.” Each of the films represents a different artist’s engagement with found footage.
Reflections on 2005 Boston Filmmaker’s Expo

In the current issue of NewEnglandFilm.com is a report by Randy Steinberg on the first Boston Filmmakers Expo hosted by Filmmakers Collaborative back in June. This event replaced their annual Open Studio, which I think worked out as a good alternative. I like the idea of gathering together in one place with other filmmakers to exchange ideas and build community. I enjoyed talking with vendors in the vendor table area, attending some seminars, and catching up with old friends during the reception. I hope they do it again next year.
